Heroes’ reception awaiting team
THE Cowboys will get a heroes’ welcome back to Townsville on Monday with plans for a street parade and civic reception whether the team wins or loses the NRL grand final.
Mayor Jenny Hill said, regardless of the result against the Storm on Sunday, the Cowboys had done the North proud and deserved a memorable welcome home from Sydney.
The Cowboys will be bussed to Jezzine Barracks on Monday, where they will parade along The Strand and into the city before stopping outside the Cowboys Leagues Club. IT IS the one night the wives and girlfriends of rugby league’s elite steal the spotlight.
But Deanna Finn, girlfriend of Cowboys’ try- scoring machine Kyle Feldt, is content taking a back seat at tonight’s Dally M Awards in Sydney.
“I’m just there to be there for him. If my dress is the ugliest dress in the room, as long he has a smile on his face that’s all I care about,” said Finn, 24, ( pictured), who wrangled a dress from a local store yesterday.
It was a last- minute decision to attend the Dally M Awards night after the Cowboys’ win over the Roosters on Saturday, during which Feldt scored the match- clinching try. And while the winger hasn’t missed a game to injury in 2017, neither has Finn in the stands.
She also sees the effort behind the scenes, doing her part by making home “as stress- free as it possibly can be”.
Finn said finals week for the women would be just as emotional as it was for the players.
“You live through them, through the highs and lows,” she said. “Coming home on the same flight as the boys, walking in there to the fans … I had a smile ear to ear.”

“They go to Sydney with our blessing, support, encouragement and belief,” Cr Hill said. “The council and the club want to join with the commun- ity to show our appreciation with a massive civic reception. “I am certain they will win.” Locations and times will be finalised in coming days.
