Fans streets ahead

THERE’S one street in town where everyone most clearly puts their support behind the North Queensland boys – Cowboy Court.

Residents of the Kelso street have been busy decorating their fences, homes and the street sign with Cowboys merchandise ahead of the grand final.

Erwyn Crossman first adorned her home in blue and yellow just before the 2015 grand final and neighbours quickly followed her lead.

Ms Crossman and her family, all diehard North Queensland fans, have lived in the street for 11 years.

They recreated the show of support this week, after their favourite team made it to the grand final.

Son Jeremy Crossman said he was surprised by the win on Saturday but was confident the Cowboys could take out the grand final.

“I love seeing people get behind the Cowboys, especially when they make the grand final,” Mr Crossman said.

“It shows the Cowboys our true support for the team and it makes them play better because they know we want them to win when we show our support by decorating our house.

“I love the Cowboys, they’re my favourite team.”

The sporting spirit has brought the neighbours even closer together.

Residents will meet at the end of the street for a party on grand final night, with the game projected onto a large screen. Danielle Woods, who lives on Cowboy Ct with her partner and three daughters, said it was the “best street” in Townsville.

“I’ve been here since 2010 and started following the Cowboys then,” she said.

“All the neighbours know each other and we’re there for each other.

“It’s not only showing support for the team but it gets the neighbours together, it’s good for the family.”

Grant Jeffs has lived on Cowboy Ct for eight years and this week plastered his fence with Cowboys posters.

He said he had not been expecting his team to make it all the way to the grand final “but I’m glad they did”. “I think they’ll win,” he said. “It’s just a great team, a great spirit.”

Pill McPherson and her family moved from Sydney to Townsville a year ago but didn’t take long to become Cowboys supporters.

Their home is covered in Cowboys inflatables and blue and yellow merchandise.
