O’Shea is back in the saddle

- BRAD DAVIDSON

JOHN O’Shea will saddle up his first Group 1 runner since his split with Godolphin when Langley starts in Saturday’s Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick.

O’Shea confirmed the three- year- old would take his place in the 2000m feature and the Randwick trainer would love to notch a Group 1 victory so soon after leaving Godolphin in May.

“It would be quite nice to win a Group 1 so soon back,” he said.

“He will give a good account of himself and I quite like him as a horse.

“A lot of people run their horses in staying races because they are too slow for sprint races whereas at least Langley is bred to run it.

“He is one of the few and he has a stout pedigree and will run the trip right out.”

O’Shea felt Langley, an $ 11 Spring Champion Stakes chance with TAB, did enough when finishing fifth in last Saturday’s Listed Dulcify Quality ( 1600m) at Randwick and he is just hoping the colt draws a gate this weekend.

“He had to get too far back from the wide gate ( last Saturday) and I would have loved to have drawn a gate and box seated but that was not to be,” O’Shea said.

“He will run the trip right out and the run has brought him on.

“He wants every furlongs.”

O’Shea has prepared three winners from 12 starters since returning to training in August. bit of 10
