World at the feet of Townsville futsal stars

- TRENT SLATTER

THE world stage beckons for four of Townsville’s exciting, young futsal talents.

Mitch McGrath, Brodie Powell, and Tyler Boyce have flown out to the UK this week to test their futsal skills against teams from all over the world.

Meanwhile, Zac Mohring will get his chance in the green and gold when he travels to Spain in December for the Under- 14 Futsal World Cup.

North Queensland Futsal development officer Alex Rossetto will accompany Zac as assistant coach of the Australian team.

The boys were selected for the international tours after their standout performances with Queensland in the FFA National Futsal Championships in Sydney in January.

Rossetto encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity to experience a different style of futsal overseas.

“To play overseas and represent their country is a huge opportunity and definitely a big achievement,” Rossetto said.

“There’s a lot of players going for it and most won’t be lucky enough to get that opportunity that these boys are getting. There’s certainly the playing opportunities, but more than that you’ve got the opportunity to develop as a person and see a different part of the world.

“It’s a different environment to what they’re probably exposed to in Australia.

“And they also get to meet new people and coaches and develop as players and as people.”
