Girls’ Night In to help shut door on cancer

- DANNI SHAFIK

THERE’S no better excuse to have a girls’ night in this month than to raise funds as part of a Cancer Council campaign.

Girls’ Night In asks women to harness the power of friendship groups during October to raise funds for the fight against women’s cancers.

For sisters Cheryl Taylor, from Alligator Creek, and Stella Hay, from West End, the cause is close to their hearts after losing three siblings and a niece to cancer.

The duo have been hosting a Girls’ Night In at Ms Taylor’s home for 10 years and their fundraising tally sits well above the $ 20,000 mark.

“We get between 30 to 50 women each year and it’s great for them because it’s for a good cause,” she said.

“You’d be surprised at how many people have actually been touched by cancer and this is where it all comes together.”

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan said regardless of whether is was a movie night, pyjama party, pot- luck dinner or games night, all money raised would make a difference

“By hosting a Girls’ Night In with your favourite ladies and donating the amount you’d usually spend on a night out, you’ll be helping us fund vital research to develop better treatments and cures, continue our education programs and provide support to the families in our community who really need it,” she said.
