CITY PENTHOUSE IN RECORD SALE
A SOUTH Townsville penthouse has sold for $ 2 million, the highest sale price for a unit in the region in more than three years.
The three- bedroom, two- bathroom penthouse on the 12th floor of the prestigious Solarus complex at 69 Palmer St sold last week to a southern buyer who plans to move to Townsville to retire.
The record- breaking sale is hoped to be indicative of Towns- ville’s unit market recovering lowing 10 years of falling prices.
North Ward Realty agent Bruce Pearce listed the penthouse for $ 2,150,000 and said he knew the penthouse was worth $ 2 million.
“We had it valued by two different valuers so we knew we were on the mark with the money,” he said.
“We priced it right and stuck to our price.”
Mr Pearce, who lives in the Solarus complex, said the penthouse was the most stunning apartment he had ever sold. “It’s the best penthouse in fol- Townsville and the reason it’s the best is because of where it’s situated,” he said.
“All you can see is that water and the boats coming and going and at night you have all of the city lights.
“You also have the unit all on one level so there is no steps.”
The last time a unit sale hit the $ 2 million mark in Townsville was in October 2014, when Mr Pearce sold another Solarus penthouse for $ 2,160,000. In July 2012 Janice Gallagher from Janice Gallagher Real estate sold a penthouse with stun- ning marina views on Mariners Drive at North Ward for $ 2 million.
Propertyology head of market research Simon Pressley said the sale was a good sign for Townsville.
“Although it’s one transaction it’s one of probably a dozen or so very positive signs for Townsville’s property market,” Mr Pressley said.
The jaw- dropping 240sq m penthouse graced the cover of the Townsville Bulletin real estate guide as House of the Week last month and was also featured on the Sky News real estate segment.
