Coating experts deliver

-

IT’S NO secret that the weather conditions in Townsville can be tough.

Temperatures soar while the sun beats down on us relentlessly for more than 300 days of the year. Moisture becomes a distant memory for much of the year while the wind and evaporation turn everything crusty and brown.

Fortunately for us, we can seek some shade to escape these harsh conditions.

But who protects the structures that provide such shade?

The answer comes in the form of Michael Waters and the team at Waters Abrasive Blasting.

“Townsville is one of worst places in Australia the for corrosion and caused by UV.

“All the jobs we do on The Strand have a three- coat system on them. It’s not just normal paint. It’s been designed by chemical engineers to withstand the elements as long as possible,” said Michael Waters, owner of Waters Abrasive Blasting.

In a nutshell, the team at Waters Abrasive Blasting use high- powered, state- of- the- art equipment to strip away years of corrosion and decay on structural metal before reapplying the appropriate coating to give the structure a new lease on life.

Mill scale, heavy rust and old coatings can greatly affect deterioration the structural integrity and appearance of any public and privately owned structure. But with a blast from Waters Abrasive Blasting, everything old is new again.

With 38 years’ experience, Michael caters for large and small jobs in the mining, industrial, commercial, military, council and marine industries, as well as the private sector.

“People come to us to get their box trailers done, or their ute trays and trucks done. We also do work for council like awnings, bins and a lot of the structures on The Strand,” said Michael.

“We blast everything back to bare metal then apply the appropriate coating to the steel or aluminium surface.”

Waters Abrasive Blasting is the biggest blasting outside of Brisbane.

Over the past five years, Michael has spent $ 3.5 million investing in the best equipment, upgrading his facilities and adding renewable energy solutions to his business, having installed what was at the time the biggest privately owned solar panel in North Queensland.

“As one of the biggest users facility of power in the Bohle area, we’ve got a 100kW system on top of our coating shed, which produces 35 per cent of our electricity,” said Michael.
