Bluefin snap up lures
“It would be a great thrill if Grace were to see her photo in the Townsville Bulletin’s fishing page,” Mr Lawn said.
And Kolby Walters, 7, also made the most of the school holidays while fishing a local creek with his grandparents.
Mum Simone said the youngster was proudest when he pulled a ripper 53cm fingermark or golden snapper from the bowels of Cleveland Bay’s Alligator Creek.
Barra season near end
PLENTY of local anglers will harbour designs on landing season- last barramundi during the next fortnight or so as the 2017 Queensland East Coast Barramundi season draws to a close.
From midday November 1, all wild barramundi will be off the menu for the ensuing three months whereas stocked freshwater fisheries sponsored by – where fishing is permitted and licence required – will have bag limits watered down to a single fish.
The Ross River weirs is one such fishery.
None of that though, will worry 4- year- old Henry Newman when he fishes under the watchful eye of his parents within the private dam on their family Toonpan property.
Mum Sharee said 60 barra fingerlings were introduced into the dam in January 2015 and now, she says, “They’re not a bad size.”
“It nearly dragged him into the dam once he got the bite, so he had a bit of help reeling it in,” Sharee said of the barra and Henry’s first fishing effort.
Gone Fishing Day
CURRENT forecasts suggest it might be a bit wet on Sunday ( fingers crossed) however I doubt such predictions are going to stop a whole army of anglers participating in the second annual and national Gone Fishing Day.
Presented by the Australian Recreational Fishing Council, the Gone Fishing Day is intended to encourage quality time in a fishy environment where friends, family and strangers can reap the rewards of wholesome outdoors activity.
The freedom, fresh air and the anticipation of a bite are just a few of the numerous joys derived from wetting a line – not forgetting the chance to take home a meal of fresh fish.
Organisers encourage all anglers to register today to join hundreds of thousands, if not millions of other Aussie anglers on Sunday and be in the running to win terrific prizes including electric motors, rods, reels, lures and line.
