Mariners to trial six of Fury’s best
THE A- League has come calling for six of Townsville’s bright young football talents.
Northern Fury under- 16 players Harrison Linning, Jarrod Fagg, Kyren Walters, Reid MacGregor, Adam Krayem and Ben Stewart have been invited to participate in a two- day trial with the Central Coast Mariners.
The boys will spend the weekend at the club’s Centre of E x c e l l e n c e and work with prof e s s i o n a l coaches as they look to secure spots on Central Coast’s National Youth team.
The Townsville youngsters were scouted at games throughout the year while former Fury coach Ian Ferguson, who finished his playing career at the Mariners, also sang their praises.
Fury goalkeeping coach Ken Mitchell has worked with some of the boys since they first started playing and said it was a massive opportunity to train with the ALeague club.
“Just the experience of being in a professional environment and having some A- League coaches and players around them is massive,” Mitchell said.
“A few of them have been with the Fury from under- 12s. Their work ethic, discipline and game awareness have really grown in that time.
“The boys have reaped the rewards of the program and worked hard to become players they are. Hopefully this is an opportunity for them to now take that step further.”
