TEACHERS West Rugby Union Club has scored a $ 120,000 State Government grant to revitalise its clubhouse.

Club treasurer Greg Huppatz said staff, players and families were ecstatic with the successful application for a Get Playing Places and Spaces grant.

“Our intent is to create some additional usable space at our clubhouse so that we can enhance our participation rates,” Mr Huppatz said.

“It’ll really offer other opportunities for club members.”

Mr Huppatz said the improved spaces would help take the club to the next level.

“It was a lot of hard work to write the grant and there’s a lot of clubs in Queensland that applied, so we feel very lucky to be one of the successful applicants,” Mr Huppatz said.

“We’re a very strong club and we’ll be able to build on that strength and offer more opportunities for players.”

Townsville MP Scott Stewart said Get Playing Places and Spaces grant contributed to the growth of sports.

“It’s really important that we fund regional sporting groups because it provides avenues for our future athletes to develop their skill levels,” Mr Stewart said.

“It’s great to get behind clubs in Townsville who can benefit from these grants.

“It’ll encourage more boys and girls to get into the sport of rugby.”
