CARAVAN MAN VOWS TO TEACH HORN A LESSON

- GRANTLEE KIEZA

GARY Corcoran says Jeff Horn suffered such a physical and emotional toll in winning the world welterweightg title againstg Manny y Pacquiaoq o that he is ready to fall apart.

Horn and “Hellraiser’’ Corcoran came face- to- face for the first time yesterday at the Brisbane Convention Centre where they will fight for Horn’s World Boxing Organisation welterweight title on December 13.

There was a pregnant pause, though, before their eyes locked as Horn arrived late for their press conference because he had taken his heavily pregnant wife, Jo, for scans and was delayed.

Jo is due to give birth to their daughter in 10 weeks and Horn said his young family was the main reason why he would not let Corcoran leave Brisbane with the world title belt he fought so hard to win against Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium on July 2.

“Gary is a very exciting fighter, he’s a come- forward guy who throws a lot of punches,’’ Horn, 29, said. “I’m a come- forward fighter who throws a lot of punches so we will meet in the middle and punch it out.”

Corcoran, 26, who comes from an “Irish gypsy’’ background, lives in a caravan with his wife and two- year- old daughter at a traveller’s camp near London’s Wembley Stadium. He was suspended from school 19 times for fighting and says he is out for revenge against Brisbane’s “Fighting Schoolteacher’’.

Yesterday, after Minister for Tourism and Majorj Events Kate Joness declared that Horn would be fighting Manny Pacquiao again at Suncorp Stadium next year if the Filipino great agreed to a rematch, Corcoran said he was about to shatter the Queensland Government’s plans.

“I’m sorry but the Pacquiao rematch won’t be happening,’’ he said. “Because I’m going back to London with the world title.’’

Corcoran’s trainer Peter Stanley watched the telecast of Horn’s win over Pacquiaoq and was impressedp by y his toughness.

“But fights like that have to take a physical and mental toll,’’ he said. “You can’t keep going into the trenches like that without it having an effect.

“Jeff Horn says he wants a tough, aggressive opponent — my message is be careful what you wish for. Jeff was badly hurt in Round 9 against Pacquiao and Gary will start where Pacquiao left off.’’
