Megan Heferen and Harlee Timms ( pictured) are now crossing their fingers they have scored an exciting opportunity to perform a Shakespeare classic in Brisbane next year.

The competition provides a unique opportunity for students across the state to celebrate the works of William Shakespeare.

Shake Fest is the original cross- schools festival connecting students’ schools with a professional arts organisation.

More than 5000 students entered the competition, with 171 students representing their region at the state finals in Brisbane.

The duo performed an excerpt from the Shakespearean comedy Much Ado About Nothing to win their category topping other duos from Coomera Anglican College and Nudgee College.

“It was an amazing opportunity to be involved with,” Megan said.

“As well as the competition, we got to experience workshops such as Physical Theatre which really develops your acting skills.”

Harlee said: “It was exciting to be around so many talented people from across the state and all the Shake & Stir Theatre Company staff and judges were so encouraging and gave us some really valuable feedback.”

The pair are now waiting to find out if they make it through to the small group of competitors that will have the opportunity to perform in Brisbane in January.

Both students will also continue to be involved in local theatre companies such as Theatre iNQ and Props Full Throttle.

Harlee is also in the process of auditioning for a number of arts education and training institutes around the country including NIDA and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
