GAMING PAY- TO- WIN BROUHAHA

-

those who subscribed to EA’s early access program, Star Wars

is available. What a ride it’s been already. The game looks gorgeous, the developers pulled out all stops to improve on war games set in the Star Wars universe.

But ignoring all that, fans have been whipped into a frenzy over loot boxes. Basically it’s pay- to- win, where you buy crates of random stuff that you would normally receive by grinding through the game.

The content is made up of upgrades that will give players an edge against others. But it wasn’t all upgrades that have been locked behind grinding the game for credits.

When it was announced that characters were being locked behind walls that would require you to play more than 40 hours of playtime to earn, fans frowned more than a little.

A post by EA defending loot boxes has become the most downvoted comment on Reddit in history.

I’m not an overly dramatic online competitor, but it’s really quite common to have these, so I feel like people are just kicking up a stink because bagging EA Games is still the “cool” thing to do.

The company was once voted most hated in the world by those same fans that bark but still buy their games.

You don’t need to buy the extra fluff, but enough people still are.

Like it or not, pay- to- win and extra downloadable content will never disappear when there’s opportunity to generate profit beyond the initial purchase. Disappointing, but true.
