City to host PBR nation finals in 2018

TOWNSVILLE will host the jewel in the Profession­al Bull Riding Australia crown next year with confirmati­on the Entertainm­ent and Convention Centre will host next year’s national finals.

The announceme­nt was made at the Iron Cowboy II event over the weekend, where teenage sensation and standings leader Aaron Kleier further enhanced himself as a superstar of the future by winning the event.

The 19- year- old from the central Queensland town of Clermont rode three of five bulls to edge out New South Welshman Lachlan Richardson and Mexico’s Gustavo Pedrero.

It continued a memorable month for Kleier, who recently competed in his first internatio­nal competitio­n at the Global Cup in Canada.

Pedrero was the leader after Friday’s night one after covering Troubled Soul for 86.25 points but Kleier was close behind with 85.5 points.

American Thor Hoefer picked up the round three win by covering Just Right for 84.75 points, while Kurt Shephard claimed victory in round four by posting 86.5 points on Bad Booger.

Kleier was the only rider with three qualified rides before the championsh­ip round, but Richardson applied some pressure by riding King Kong for 87.75 points.

Kleier couldn’t snap the dominance of star bull Unbroken, who remains unridden in more than 100 attempts. Event Results 1st: Aaron Kleier — 85.5- 84- 83.25 2nd: Lachlan Richardson — 84.7587.75 3rd: Gustavo Pedrero — 86.25- 85 4th: Brock Radford — 85- 82.5 5th: Bailey Woodard — 85- 80.5
