GIRLS HELPING GIRLS

- YEAR 7 ALYSSA HASTIE - ST MARGARET MARY’S

ST MARGARET Mary’s College Year 7 students have been fundraising for ‘ Women of the World’ to help millions of women who are experiencing poverty and injustice.

The money raised will help empower more women around the world and bring about positive change for marginalised communities everywhere.

Students from St Margaret Mary’s College have been standing up for less fortunate women. All five Year 7 homerooms have been raising awareness for women from poorer countries, each holding their own fundraiser for CARITAS ‘ Women for the World’ scheme during Term 4.

Women in developing countries are treated very differently from women in countries such as Australia.

The main role of a woman in these places is to be a mother.

And some girls will be sold off to be married as young as the age of 12.

Many of them will receive very little to no education during their lifetime, reducing the likelihood of them being able to get a job.

CARITAS Australia is trying to raise awareness for these women, and all funds raised by the ‘ Women of the World’ scheme go towards helping young girls get a decent education.

Each Year 7 homeroom planned and hosted their fundraiser, donating all funds to CARITAS.

All money will be used to give less fortunate girls a chance at a bright future.
