Dorice has a ton of help for party
DORICE Adams has celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends at a morning tea at Glendale Care, Mount Louisa.
Mrs Adams was born Dorice Marjorie Moore in Geelong, Victoria in 1917. She was the eldest of four children.
She married Howard Adams, a National Bank officer, at the start of World War II.
The pair moved around Tasmania and Victoria for work before Mr Adams retired in 1977.
In 2000, the Adams moved to Townsville to live next door to one of their two sons, John.
Mr Adams passed away in 2004 and last year Mrs Adams moved to Glendale Care.
John Adams said his mother was a gifted musician, doing well in eisteddfods as a young pianist.
She was heavily involved with the Methodist and Uniting Churches and was called upon to be a church organist in a number of parishes as well as a choir conductor.
“She was somewhat frustrated at not being able to do further music study,” said John. “Nevertheless, she became a loving parent and, like many women of her era, devoted her life to the care of her family and home and involvement in church life.
“She was a keen floral artist for home and church and loved growing native plants in her gardens.”
Mrs Adams’ son Robert lives in Newcastle with his wife Hannie. John is in Townsville with his wife Jeanie.
Mrs Adams is a grandmother of six and greatgrandmother of nine.
