Roos wary of Bennett boilover

- PETER BADEL

BENJI Marshall has brushed off retirement talk as he revealed he was twice knocked back by the Wests Tigers before being granted a fairytale return for next season.

Four years since his unceremonious exit from Concord, the veteran playmaker’s career has come full circle and the 32year- old has begun pre- season preparation with the Tigers.

There are few more players closely associated with the joint venture and he said he felt like he was “home” as soon as he walked back in the door.

“Half the reason that I rang Ivan to come back was because I’ve always had the feeling I wanted to come back, I’ve just never had the opportunity,” Marshall said.

“When I came back from union, I tried to come back and they shut that down and I tried again after the Dragons.”

“When I was thinking about what I was going to do after the Broncos I thought ‘ you know what, I’m just going to ring ( coach) Ivan ( Cleary) and just try to make it happen’.

Asked if he was considering retirement at the conclusion of his one- year contract Marshall said he hadn’t contemplated it. “I don’t know mate,” he said. KANGAROOS prop Aaron Woods will require a painkilling needle to be fit for the World Cup final as Australian stars warned the Wayne Bennett factor could mastermind an English boilover.

Both teams have injury concerns, with key England hooker Josh Hodgson ruled out of Saturday night’s decider at Suncorp Stadium after snapping his ACL against Tonga.

Meanwhile, Australian lock Josh McGuire ( ankle) trained lightly on Tuesday, while Woods is almost certain to have an injection on the shoulder injury he sustained in their 54- 6 semi- final rout of Fiji.

There were fears Woods could be forced to miss the decider but the in- form frontrower will seek medical assistance to ensure he faces the monster English pack.

“It’s all right, I trained ( yesterday),,” Woods said of his shoulder.

“I will probably go into the game with a needle and see how it feels.
