GAMING PLENTY OF KICKS IN 2D

-

amazing to see how the Dragon Ball series has evolved. Growing up it was the cartoon to watch before school began; a vital staple to get your day started. Oh and breakfast was important, too, I guess.

From its vegetable- themed character names to the over- the- top insane battles, Dragon Ball was arguably the entry anime for new fans. Originally only in Japan, the global success of the show naturally progressed into the somewhat niche 3D fighter video games.

There were some real gems, but not all hit the mark.

So not only was it a surprise to see Bandai Namco announce Dragon Ball FighterZ at this year’s E3, but that it would also be going back to the genre’s traditional 2D gameplay.

Despite the surprise, I’m on board with it. Fighting in the Dragon Ball universe is always going to be a real screen- filler with punches and kicks, flying and Ki blasts going everywhere.

Flying around in a huge 3D arena was a huge draw for some more recent games, but the trade- off was that close quarter fighting could not be maintained.

Just like your classic Street Fighter the overall visual of the fights will now be easier to handle. Everything from player position, health and Ki power can be seen at a glance.

What will make this game perfect is a complete cast of fighters. Because who doesn’t want to see Yamcha taking on Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku, right? And yes that’s his fighter name, deal with it.
