SKATE ON IN FOR WHITE CHRISTMAS

- DANNI SHAFIK

A GLIMPSE of a white Christmas in Townsville is on offer with Warrina Ice Rink extending an invitation for locals to attend a special first- time event.

The ice skating facility will host Christmas on Ice next week for the first time, with a feature of demonstrations and activities for all ages.

Aerial performer Sarah Yvonne will be the star act, along with displays featuring ice hockey, figure skating and broomball.

Figure skating coach and one of the event’s organisers Tessa Black said it was great that the ice sports were collaborating to put on the one show.

“With the recent refurbishments and opening of the ice rink we wanted to engage with the community about what ice sports are available as we are now up and running,” she said.

Ms Black said the evening would feature a Christmas theme and she was particularly excited about the aerial demonstration.

“It’s something that Townsville has never seen before and may never see on ice again,” she said.

The show will also allow the audience to get on the ice after the performers and have a skate.

“Some of the professionals in the show will stay on to help out and engage with the community more,” Ms Black said.

“If people are going to come, please bring plenty of warm clothes as it is cold in there.”

Christmas on Ice will be held on December 9 with tickets now available for $ 20 per person, which includes skate hire after the show.
