Cowboys ready to blaze trail through the season

-

WELL fellow Cowboys supporters, the 2017 Premiership has been decided and Storm were the worthy premiers.

That, however, does not mean we can’t strengthen our resolve during the recess to come out firing again and return the trophy to its rightful place – North Queensland.

Just reflecting for a moment on last season, our team did not win the title but their gallant efforts did not go unnoticed throughout the nation.

Their resilience has firmly been established and the respect for the Cowboys’ brand is at an all- time high and there is more to come. The team is on a crest of a wave and having featured in the last three finals is assured of a bright future.

So, down to business, how are we placed for next season? On all reports Paul Green and his staff are happy and full of confidence, with practically the same team as last year, which boasts a wealth of experience.

They have commenced training and they should be primed and ready to go.

With the return of Johnathan Thurston, Matt Scott and the addition of Jordan McLean, there is no doubt they should prove to be a powerful unit.

If it is possible to obtain another big forward and a hard running centre within the salary cap to allow for injuries, they would be hard to contain.

The administration under the leadership of Daryl Holmes is functioning well and look to have picked a winner with Greg Tonner as CEO, as evident by his handling of membership sales and publicity.

The Cowboys Leagues Club in Flinders St continues to grow in popularity and is a shining beacon for the Cowboys. Due credit must be given to their hard- working manager Clint Williams along with his toprate staff.

Yes supporters, the stage has been set for a successful season and it is vital to stand up and be counted. We know what is required and it’s time to let those southern teams know that the sleeping giant, the North Queensland Cowboys, is now fully awake and ready to flex its muscles in 2018. FRED WOODHEAD,

North Ward.
