Suzy Batkovic STING OF DEFEAT TO BRING OUT OUR BEST Time to turn it around

-

WE’VE hit a bit of a lull in our season but it’s not panic stations yet.

We came out very flat in our loss to Dandenong on Wednesday, our second straight, but the things we’re not doing well are very fixable.

The biggest one is high energy and intensity, which we’ve spoken about and now we’ve just got to get it done, there’s no excuses for it.

Our coach, Claudia Brassard, described the display as “selfish”, but not in the traditional sense.

We were so flat people were just trying to make something happen, but not running our structure properly.

Sydney knocked us out of the finals last year but if we’re not motivated after two straight losses, there’s obviously something wrong with us.

There’s no excuses and dropping two games should be enough to give you an injection of energy. I can’t see us not coming out guns blazing and doing all the little things in our control.

Sydney get a lot of points on the board so defensively we need to be on our A- game.

They’re a great team, they won the championship last year and have kept their whole core together which works for them. We just have to make sure we’re disruptive and not giving them all the easy looks they generally get.

We were top of the ladder and now we’re equal with Sydney at 8- 5 and we have to fight to keep our spot.

We went down to them earlier in the season but a win would kept the season series alive, which could be crucial in such a logjammed league.

We’ve got a team which is so capable. It’s not that we’re lacking talent it’s just finding a way to make things work when things aren’t flowing.

A few games ago we did a really good job of it, learning how to win down the stretch and starting better.

We’ve hit a couple of hurdles since but it’s not the end of the world. We have to believe in each other and if we bring energy, things seem to roll off that.
