Cricketer robbed at knifepoint at Kirwan
THREE men are still on the run after threatening a man with knives in an armed robbery.
The 23- year- old victim was leaving a cricket club meeting and walking to his car, which was parked on Golf Links Drive, Kirwan, at 8.30pm on Tuesday when he was approached by three men.
The men threatened the victim with knives and demanded he hand over possessions including a wallet, car keys and phone.
The man handed over the goods before the offenders fled on foot.
Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch’s Detective Senior Constable Darren Smith said several people witnessed the event and two of the three offenders were armed with knives.
Sen- Constable Smith said two of the men were described as caucasian and one indigenous, with all three in their late teens.
“It’s a very volatile situation where you have a number of young men who may or may not be affected by substances or alcohol in a situation where they are presenting a knife and demanding property,” SenConstable Smith said.
He said the victim did the right thing by complying with demands.
A father of one man at the scene said several witnesses were also threatened.
“His mate had all his gear stolen and when they went out to see what was going on they were threatened with the knives,” he said.
“Pity they didn’t have their cricket bats handy, could be a few smashed heads.”
Sen- Constable Smith said police were keen to hear from potential witnesses and people in the area who may have CCTV footage.
