Girl, 12, ‘ told she would be thrown off bridge’

-

A GIRL, 13, has been charged over a string of events including allegedly threatening to throw a girl off a bridge.

The girl is accused of attempted robbery, serious assault on police officers, wilful damage and receiving stolen goods all while on bail.

Police said a girl, 12, was on a bridge at Weir State School about 4pm on Tuesday when she was stopped by six children.

Townsville Child Protection Investigation Unit Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Dan Stehr said the female ringleader threatened the girl.

“She was approached by six youths aged between seven and 13 years of age,” Sen- Sgt Stehr said. “One of the females approached the 12- year- old girl and demanded her phone.

“( She) threatened that she was going to bash her and throw her off the bridge if she didn’t hand it over.” The girl ran to safety. One of the group allegedly later stole a bottle of vodka.

Police tracked the group to Kittyhawk Cres, Kirwan, where they allegedly found the vodka in possession of a girl, 13.

She was arrested over both incidents and allegedly seriously assaulted police.

“She spat on police officers on three separate occasions, punched one male officer twice with a hammer fist,” Sen- Sgt Stehr said. “Unfortunately this isn’t the first time we’ve dealt with this particular girl.”

Police also say the girl was chroming before her arrest and was subsequently taken to hospital where she was alleged to have kicked a hole in a wall.

She faced court yesterday and was remanded until tomorrow.
