No going back down Jones’ path

-

REGARDING the article by Domanii Cameron “Jones keen for a return as MP” ( TB, 05/ 12).

I am flummoxed by the hubris of many politicians, Mr Jones being the latest. Ewen Jones tenure as the member for Herbert in his last term was one of bitter disappointment for many, particularly this writer.

On at least three occasions through the Townsville Bulletin, I called on the local member Mr Jones to represent in the most strongest possible terms the question of punitive cyclone insurance.

Fellow Liberal Mr Warren Entsch MP, Chair of the Northern Taskforce for cyclone insurance did absolutely diddly squat with our teal- green Ewen Jones roaring out his solutions with more stunning silence.

I contacted Ewen Jones on more than one occasion on cyclone insurance and his walking on egg shells with his timid approach to his advocacy on Adani, compared to his strong advocacy on refugee/ immigration/ SSM/ and progressive issues as is his right.

In an letter to editor in the Townsville Bulletin on November 24, 2015 “We are short changed” I wrote this: “At the upcoming Federal election in Herbert, we have the Liberal progressive, Mr Ewen Jones seeking reelection versus the ALP’s ideological dewy- eyed Ms Cathy O’Toole. Oddly both steeped in identity politics, multiculturalism, climate change, marriage equality and anything indicating Left.”

The Coalition needs candidates who are going to stand up for the North, not bogged down in the destructive forces of inner city, green progressive policies. PETER J. SMITH,

Rosslea.
