Youth crime laws impact innocent

-

HOW many innocent people will have to be badly injured or lose their life before our government admits they have lost control of our streets?

The animals are running the zoo and our newly elected government need to stop popping the victory champagne corks and patting themselves on the back and return the streets of Townsville back to the people that live in them.

On Friday we had three elderly people driving down a highway obeying the road rules enjoying a drive when two stolen cars that were racing each other caused a collision that shattered their existence.

If the truth were to be told, you can bet your bottom dollar that these youth have done this over and over again.

A neighbour once quoted to me that good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly and bad people just keep on breaking the laws.

I urge all residents of our city to do more than type a few angry lines on social media and start to be proactive in contacting your local members and demanding that they find a solution right now. They cannot be left to dwell in denial land any longer as this is problem was made by them back in 2015 with their amendments to the Youth Justice Act.

They have forced the courts to lube up the revolving doors to the courthouse with their release to reoffend policies and this is the end result.

We need the people that haven’t been affected by crime to be as outraged as much as those that have. MIKE ABRAHAM,

Idalia.
