Skipper backs Brisbane to Roar to life
ROAR skipper Matt McKay admits fans are justified to write off Brisbane as an ALeague threat.
While McKay is adamant his side is just a “tweak” away from finding form, he conceded talk was cheap without good results.
The Roar have won just two from 12 matches this season heading into Saturday’s clash against Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium.
“I know everyone’s writing us off and you can because we haven’t got the runs on the board this season,” McKay said.
“We’ve got to perform. You can see in patches we’re hard to stop … but it’s not always about that.
“We’ve had these kind of situations in the past and we’ve come out of it at the right end.
“It’s nothing we haven’t seen before. Any player in our team would have seen this, wherever they’ve been.
“We’re not getting flogged … it’s just tweaking things and being more consistent in everything we do and get that winning feeling. Once you’ve got it, you feel invincible.”
McKay insisted spirits were high in the Roar camp and was adamant Roar coach John Aloisi was the right man to lead the club back up the ladder.
“We all know what he’s done for the club,” McKay said in referring to Aloisi having guided the Roar through tough times on and off the field since his appointment before the 2015- 16 season.
“When you look at a coach, their ultimate task is the playing group but John’s had so many more jobs.
“That’s why I find it frustrating that people will have a go at him because he’s pretty much run the club since he’s been here.
“He should be focusing all his energies on the team’s plans and he hasn’t been able to do that.”
Adelaide beat the Roar 2- 1 in Round 2 at Suncorp Stadium, scoring goals in the 88th minute and stoppage time to break Brisbane hearts after Massimo Maccarone had given the hosts an early lead.
“That could have been three points for us early in the season,” McKay said
“Once again it’s a challenge for us.”
