Inspired way to start year

-

CHRISTMAS festivities are over and the focus is now on New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Brisbane interior designer Christopher Gyzemyter of CG Design Studio has shared some tips to make your home, and your New Year’s dinner party, go off with a bang.

Use your home and colour palettes as inspiration. Don’t throw a whole new scheme into the mix just for one night.

Mix it up by adding gold or metallic accessories like gold cutlery and accented glassware. This trend won’t be going anywhere anytime soon for festivities so you’ll get your money’s worth over the next few years.

Don’t take it all too seriously. At New Year’s, get your guests to pop their prosecco instead of party poppers for something a bit different.

Work with what’s in season for your centrepieces, whether that’s flowers or fruit, and pop outside to see what you can use from the garden for a more rustic look. Little floral touches, as seen on each napkin, can make a huge impact. Don’t just throw the flowers in a vase – get creative with them.

Don’t be concerned if not everything matches. It can often be more striking to have complementary glassware that isn’t from the same set and style.

Mr Gyzemyter said the setting pictured above was laid at a client’s house in preparation for the festive season, taking its inspiration from the existing colour palette in the home.

“In that home, it was soft blush pinks and golds, metallics,” he said. “That palette is quite on trend.

“But people can work with whatever colours they have, whether they are soft blues or greys, for example, you can still work with golds, silvers, chromes and metallics.

“Basically, just work with what you have got and expand on that to make the biggest impact. And it doesn’t have to cost the earth.

“You can mix stylish pieces with budget items to make a beautiful table setting.”
