Catch a bargain at Barra Fun Park

- ANDREW BACKHOUSE

IT’S one of the cheapest tourist attractions on sale in Australia and it’s right here in Kelso.

Barra Fun Park is on the market for $ 2.5 million.

Brent Stevenson has been running the popular park for 18 years but wants to spend more time with his family of seven.

An expression of interest campaign last January failed to secure a buyer but Mr Stevenson said one was nearly found.

“We had a few inquiries and we thought it was sold in February,” he said. “People flew up from Brisbane but it fell over at the last hurdle.”

Mr Stevenson said he would continue to grow the park while he owned it.

“We want to make it bigger and better,” he said.

“Summer has been successful and we have a few things in mind to add for next summer.

“We want to make it as good as we can.”

Mr Stevenson said he understood it was one of the cheapest parks of its kind for sale in Australia. “We believe it’s cheap,” he said. “The fact is even if the whole thing went belly up, land there is worth nearly $ 2 million in a good market.

“The land is zoned for commercial and that’s a great selling point.”

The park, on Allambie Lane, is open from 10am to 4pm on weekends and every day of the school holidays but is closed from May to September.

Mr Stevenson said it had grown to the stage where it should be open for the whole year.
