FLAGS OUT FOR FIRE

TOWNSVILLE Fire captain Suzy Batkovic raised a giant flag in Douglas yesterday, a statement so big even the Melbourne Boomers squad would have seen it when they flew in to prepare for Game 1 of the 2017- 18 WNBL Grand Final Series tomorrow night.

TOWNSVILLE Fire have ha b brightened i h our skies as the women’s basketball team’s flag waves in anticipati­on for game one of the WNBL grand final.

Captain Suzy Batkovic and Acting Mayor Les Walker raised Townsville Fire’s flag at the Douglas roundabout yesterday as the women prepare to take on the Melbourne Boomers tomorrow night at Townsville Stadium.

Batkovic said Townsville’s community and fans were incredible.

“We are definitely feeling the love from everyone here,” she said.

“Whether it’s us or the Cowboys, people get behind it and support us.”

Cr Walker said there would be many more flags to go up.

“It’s the number three national title we are fighting for and we want to make sure they bring it home,” he said.

The big match begins at 6.30pm at Townsville Stadium, with a full house guaranteed as North Queensland gathers to cheer on our talented team.

Tickets are selling fast but may still be available on the team’s website.

For anyone who misses out, the game will also be telecast live on Fox Sports.
