Tammy set to win over Tamworth
COUNTRY music singer Tammy Moxon is shooting for the stars.
The Townsville- born musician is heading to Tamworth to compete in the 2018 Toyota Star Maker finals at Australia’s biggest annual music festival.
Moxon, 27, is relaxed about the prospect of performing alongside some of the country’s best aspiring musicians.
“It’s an incredible opportunity with more than $ 100,000 worth of prizes up for grabs,” she said.
“Toyota is giving away a car for a year, and free petrol which allows us to travel anywhere and sing anywhere we want.
“That’s something I’m most looking forward to because the further you can share your music the better response you get.”
She started singing on her father’s knee when she was just four and recalls the exact moment she wanted to become a musician.
“Dad’s a singer and I saw him singing at the Charters Towers Country Music Festival on the big stage.
“I thought he couldn’t be there on his own so I jumped out of mum’s arms and tried to run to him on the stage.
“That planted the seed and the next year I sang in the competition. Dad taught me everything I know, how to sing, play guitar and how to write.”
She’s not shy about going on the big stage at the Tamworth Country Music Festival which started the careers of Keith Urban and Lee Kernaghan.
“I’m going to treat it like an incredible opportunity,” she said.
“The fact you go on stage in front of the industry’s important people and get the opportunity to sing in front of very experienced and incredible band is great in itself.”
Moxon will depart Townsville for the festival on January 19.
