TOWNSVILLE’S iconic white house on the hill was the highest selling house in Townsville during 2017.

The three- bedroom, twobathroom Californian bungalow at 9 Cleveland Terrace, North Ward sold at auction in August for $ 1.825 million.

The house is in one of the most enviable locations in Townsville with 270 degree views of the ocean.

The property also came with 3636sq m of land over two allotments.

The home was only beaten by the Solarus penthouse which was both the highest apartment sale and overall highest residential sale of the year in Townsville after it sold for $ 2 million.

The three- bedroom, two 12th bathroom floor in penthouse Palmer St, on South the Townsville was the highest sale price for unit in Townsville in more than three years.

Ray White agent Julie Mahoney, who sold 9 Cleveland Terrace, said she was not surprised the home sold well because it was one of the best property offerings in Townsville in 2017.

“People see value in land in the city and it’s in a bluechip location,” she said.

“It’s sold to a long- term Townsville family that are well known.

“It didn’t have all the bells and whistles but it did have enduring charm and in 100 years’ time it will still be in demand.”

It was the first time the home had been on the market in 44 years after being owned by co- founding director of the North Queensland Cowboys Max Short, who died in 2016 aged 89.

The second- highest house sale went to 30 Yarrawonga Drive, Castle Hill, which sold to a medical professional at auction on December 16 for $ 1.56 million.

The second highest apartment sale was for 5/ 92 The Strand which sold in October for $ 1.4 million.
