Finally reprieve from witch hunt

-

PREVIOUSLY my views on women as predatory were too politically incorrect for publication. Now, finally, female journalists have patronisingly decided to defend men and their trial by hashtag.

Male journalists are still being silenced by a feminist left society. It would seem it is only their tail they have between their legs. The only male to come out against sexual harassment accusations against men is the ageing gay activist Ian McKellen, who reveals a few home- truths about the “casting couch” culture as he remembers it.

France, which used to be a male chauvinist society which adored women, has spoken out. Actress Catherine Deneuve with another 99 highprofile women has denounced the backlash against men with an anti- # MeToo campaign, which she believes was fuelled by a “hatred of men”, who are being unfairly targeted by sexual misconduct allegations. In her opinion the “witch hunt” threatens sexual freedom. She defends men’s rights to chat up/ seduce women.

I’m reminded of Cole Porter’s lyrics from Kiss Me, Kate: “I hate men! / They should be kept like piggys in a pen!” Anyone who has ever seen Arthur Miller’s The Crucible could not be blamed for thinking a “witch hunt” was a hunt by witches. A young pseudo- witch is responsible for the hanging of an innocent man.

I’m sure male arts undergraduates in the future will be spared the mock- seduction verses of Marvell’s lyrics To His Coy Mistress or Donne’s metaphysical conceit The Flea.

Literature lectures in England and the US now come with warnings if they contain any examples of “sexual harassment”.

I was somewhat confused, however, by the political statement being made by the seethrough black dresses at the Golden Globes. The message seemed more mixed than song lyrics performed by Madonna.

No Australian politician has ever been game to popularise the word “misandry” and send it viral, so men have little defence against a “tarred with the same brush” mentality. It does not really seem like cosmic justice that testosterone prevents males from living as long as females. WILLIAM ROSS,

Cranbrook.
