- LUCY SMITH

A 22- YEAR- OLD man allegedly robbed an Idalia service station with a knife early yesterday.

District duty officer Senior Sergeant Joe Matheson said a man entered the BP service station on Stuart Dr at 2.50am and demanded cash from a staffer.

Police will allege he showed the woman a knife in his waistband.

“The ( man) obtained a quantity of cash from the till and left the location on foot,” he said.

Sen- Sgt Matheson said the man did not try to conceal his identity and no one was injured in the robbery.

Police spoke to the victim, set up cordons in the area and obtained CCTV footage of the incident.

Officers obtained information that the alleged robber, from Bracken Ridge in Brisbane, then caught a taxi to a Caltex petrol station in Railway Estate. “Police attended Caltex to arrest the offender. We don’t know if it was going to be a target for a robbery,” he said.

Police arrested the man at 3.30am and charged him with entering a premise with intent to commit an indictable offence, armed robbery and possessing a knife in a public place.

He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.
