THE TALK OF THE TOWN
as well. Who knows what will eventuate. Tec Guru
The pipe finishes where it does because the design was to take it from there to Toonpan for a new treatment plant. The pipe is a transfer from storage to storage. Warren
Is the “Cross River Rail” project threatened too? I have friends & relatives in the “great SE Qld kingdom” – they are stunned that Townsville’s water supply is so far down the gurgler! Allan
Am quite worried by the letter from the deputy mayor today in the paper. He is indicating that Stage 1 of the current project will provide total water security. It is becoming very obvious by the gradual releasing of such statements that the council are not planning for future infrastructure. This has the potential to shackle future generations with further misery. Sherryl
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that’s the case given their continued disinterest in talking water. My guess is they’ve figured we’ll get a good wet some time between now and the next local council election, and all the glitzy city centre developments will dazzle residents into voting them back in. If Tsv wants water security, we need residents to never forget AND we need a bunch of people running for council that are interested in fixing the water problem. Helen
Stage 1 will provide almost double the water supplies that we have now, but the main question is whether the solar power component will be included so our rates aren’t paying for high coal- fired power to pump the water here? Allan
The renewables thing is going to be difficult, because it will only provide quality power for little more than six hours a day. On top of this the question of what to do with the power when pumping doesn’t occur. Companies like Ergon will not pay much for an intermittent supply. Linda
Graham Campbell said it ( solar) is more affordable now, practical, relatively quick to install ( as opposed to a fourth dam). Anything else with our tiny ratepayer base, and bottled water would be cheaper. Hence our agenda to have the Feds honour their City Deal with some funding. Wendy
All good questions – the powers that be always went with “It will rain” as the solution and passed the buck. We have run out of time and patience. Allan
The WFTAG articles in the Tuesday paper are having a powerful effect. I think Councillor Les Walker’s letter was prompted by them. Keep them up. We all want more action than is currently being planned. Greg
Starting to save up for that bore. Sadly I’m expecting another failed wet season. This will be what, 4 in a row?
