Sweating on getting a few showers

-

JOBS are at risk with the future of a Cairns wholesale distributor hanging in the balance.

Interstate and Country ( IAC) Wholesale has gone into liquidation, casting a dark cloud over its warehouse operations in Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton.

Todd Kelly and John Goggin of BDO North Queensland have been appointed liquidators.

Mr Goggin said about 30 staff “had been retained”.

“We are continuing to trade for a limited period while we try to find a buyer,” he said.

“We’re at a critical juncture in the sale process, and expecting to have the outcome of a marketing campaign finalised this week.

“A lot will depend on the outcome of this.

“The aim is to try and sell the business … to achieve the best outcome for stakeholders.”

Mr Goggin was unable to say how much, if any, money IAC Wholesale owed. TOWNSVILLE can expect sweaty, humid days this week, but with any luck some rain might also be on our way.

Forecaster Michael Paech said the city could expect some showers today and tomorrow, with falls from 7mm to 15mm.

“We do have a trough offshore on the north tropical coast and there’s a chance that trough will cross at Townsville and bring showers,” he said. “Where it comes in could increase the chance of some showers.

“There does also remain the possibility that, as often is the case, Townsville may miss out.”

Mr Paech said further showers were expected until the weekend and rainfall could vary around the region.

“From about Rollingstone north is usually in the firing line for some better rain,” he said.

Mr Paech said a cyclone could develop around Cape York within the next week.

“We are expecting a burst in the monsoon,” he said.
