GREYHOUND racing returns to the Townsville Showgrounds tonight with 10 races, headlined by feature finals the RQ Maiden 1000 over 380m and the Accell Therapy Australia Day Trophy over 498m.

The Australia Day Trophy Final over 498m has attracted a good quality field with trainer Glen Olsen having three starters.

Kerrie’s A Minx ( 1) can begin on her night and will be hard to catch on the bunny, while Slow Dancer ( 2) can be in the mix with a clean start.

Whatta Pass ( 8) has drawn well and usually starts to accelerate mid- race before a strong finish.

Trainer Robert Lound has two starters, including Bruton Miss ( 3) who has very good box speed and will be one of the front runners, while Rocket’s Magic ( 6) needs to clear the field.

Choc Latte Cloud ( 5) for Michael Fusco, having her first look at the distance, has been racing in Brisbane with wins at Ipswich ( 431m), Albion Park ( 395m and 520m) and Capalaba ( 366m).

Chips Ahoy ( 4) has returned to the Rhonda Essery kennels after a stint in Brisbane, can run a strong 500m and has won three times over the distance with a best of 28.69.

Asa Abbandando ( 7) for Clarence Wilcox can begin on his night and has a strong run home.

Race 5 is the RQ Maiden 1000 Final over 380m.

Trainer Rhonda Essery has five runners in this final with Go Freddy Go ( 5) the fastest heat winner in 21.99 and should start favourite. Magic Doug ( 1) ran a good third last week behind Go Freddy Go. He has drawn better this week and will improve immensely.

Boys Round Here ( 4) for Glen Olsen ran very well last week when going down by a half- length.

It will be improved for the run and could very well start equal favourite.

Bird ( 6) for Jay Schafer is knocking on the door for a win with two recent seconds.

Licorice Shot ( 8) for Rhonda Essery won his heat last week from box 7 in 22.26, has very good box speed and will be hard to run down on the home stretch.
