‘ Mates’ help Glenn move

THE pride of Australia’s navy is back basking in the North Queensland sun for a short 82- hour visit.

HMAS Canberra is the largest ship in the Royal Australian Navy and it docked at the Port of Townsville’s berth 10 just after 7am yesterday.

One of the last times the ship visited was last year during Talisman Sabre – the largest joint military exercise involving our nation and the United States – to load troops and equipment and, for the first time, a tank.

It’s scheduled to depart the city abut 5pm on Monday.

The Department of Defence yesterday did not disclose where the ship’s next destination was. YOU know who your true friends are when you move house and ask for help.

In the case of a Townsville man, he can count almost the whole community as a mate.

Glenn Musk’s appeal for help from the community has been met with an overwhelming response in Townsville.

Mr Musk is a single father with a bad back. So when increasing crime and anti- social behaviour at his home near the Rockpool prompted him to move, he faced a problem.

How do you lift things when you’ve had three back operations?

He put out a call on social media for help and was inundated with responses from kind people offering assist- ance. Mr Musk said he was forced to move because it had become unsafe for himself and his son in North Ward.

“Things like parties under my boy’s bedroom to me getting assaulted going to hang out my washing because I wouldn’t give them ( beggars) money,” he said.

He decided to move to Kirwan and asked for some “fit guys” to help with a ute or a trolley.

“I could really do with some help with a few things on the weekend,” he said.

Hundreds of people answered his call for help offering trailers, trolleys and their free time. Mr Musk said he was taken aback and “massively humbled” by the offers of help.

He said the move would start from 9am today and was expecting it to turn into a party of sorts.

People have offered to cook food and a throng of workers are ready to shift furniture and belongings.

“We’re going to fire the barbecue up at the new place,” Mr Musk said.

If you see commotion at a home on Mitchell St in North Ward today, don’t be concerned – it’s simply friendly Townsville locals helping a “mate” move.
