Docking just like Rodgers

- JORDAN GERRANS

CAIRNS Falcons quarterback Bayden Docking has used NFL superstar Aaron Rodgers as his inspiration ahead of today’s latest round of the NQ Gridiron Series against Townsville.

Docking, a second- year Falcon, had never played gridiron before relocating to the Far North for work and has not looked back since.

He started as a defensive back in the Falcons’ first season but has since become the man that leads and runs the club’s offence in the North Queensland gridiron series.

Rodgers, the Packers’ quarterback since 2005 and a Super Bowl champion, is the man Docking likes to mimic.

“Rodgers is acknowledged for his skill level and sometimes he has not had the team around him that other quarterbacks have,” Docking said.

“You watch how quarterbacks read the game, read the defence and how they adapt to what the rest of the team is doing. It was a great mental challenge for me to move from defensive back to quarterback; I feel like I have an understanding of what the defence is trying to do.”

Falcons coach David Tibbetts believes Docking has been a driving force behind the club’s two positive results to start the 2018 campaign.

“I am really impressed with his commitment to learning the position,” he said.

The Falcons, who beat Mackay last Saturday, host Townsville for the first time this season today at their Smithfield home ground.
