Steelcats keen to build on title win
MAGNETIC North Steelcats coach Sue Warmington is confident they have assembled the squad to claim backto- back country division titles in the Queensland State Netball League.
The Steelcats have finalised their list with eight of the 12- player squad returning from last year’s successful campaign, including captain Brady Smith and reigning player of the year Jennifer Hamilton.
The Steelcats topped the country division last season and finished just one game shy of the state grand final and Warmington believes they could keep that momentum rolling into 2018.
“We’re very fortunate to have a bit of consistency within the group then we’ve also got some youngsters coming through with great potential and we’re really looking forward to seeing what they can do,” she said.
“The bulk of our players have been in the squad before so they certainly know what it’s all about and what’s required to come away with championship for the country division.
“The last couple of weeks at training has given us a great look at our combinations and we believe we’ve got the team to do it all again.”
The Steelcats will open their QSNL campaign with a home game weekend on April 28- 29 while the club will also host a preseason carnival next month featuring invitational sides including an indigenous development team.
The season will be shorter with a busier schedule, but Warmington said the Steelcats would be ready.
“It’s tracking really well. We have a lot of good things in place,” she said.
