Hospital operator confident appeal against project will fail

-

THE operators of a planned new private hospital in Townsville say they are surprised and disappointed by a legal appeal of their development approval and look forward to rolling out their new model of care.

The Weststate Private Hospital is to be built as part of a redevelopment of the former Townsville West State School site but is being opposed by the Mater private hospital in Pimlico, which has its own $ 90 million redevelopment plans.

CEO of Weststate Private Hospital Daryl Wright said the $ 54 million project would deliver 84 new jobs, expanded health care services and more choice for North Queensland residents.

“Weststate represents the next phase of health services in North Queensland. It will deliver exceptional health services, a greater choice for residents and strong employment opportunities,” Mr Wright said.

“With increased choice and facilities, North Queensland residents will have access to some of the best healthcare services available in the country. It’s a great outcome for the region.

“We’re looking to rollout a new model of care, with an absolute focus on our guests. People can expect a premium private health experience with high- end hospitality.

“This extends to our staff experience, including an interactive culture and exceptional on- site employee facilities.

“We’re surprised and disappointed about the recent appeal but remain confident the project has met and exceeded all requirements.”
