Dealership adds popular small cars, BMW motorcycles Minis back in town

- TONY RAGGATT

AFTER a 10- year absence the Mini is back in town with Pickerings Auto Group’s BMW dealership appointed a dealer for the popular cars.

Pickerings dealer principal Scott McElligott said the dealership had been a strong seller of the brand before the number of Australian sales outlets was reduced in recent years.

He said Pickerings was offered the brand in light of a redevelopment of the BMW dealership property in Sturt St which will occur this year.

“We are about to undergo a renovation of the BMW site. As part of that we have been appointed a Mini dealer,” Mr McElligott said.

“There’s only 16 Mini dealers is Australia and we have just picked up number 17.”

The nearest Mini dealer at pres- ent is on the Sunshine Coast. Mr McElligott said they had just received their first Minis and would stock the entire range, while they had also taken the opportunity to stock BMW motorcycles.

“In the BMW world, we now have everything. We are one of the only regional bases in Australia that have the lot,” Mr McElligott said.

He said they would create stateof- the- art facilities in the redevelop- ment which would provide a major upgrade for its service department including the ability to cater for electric vehicles.

He said BMW had the one of the largest ranges of electric vehicles and the market in Australia was about to move to electrification based on government policy.

“We know electrification is the way of the future and we are getting ready for that,” Mr McElligott said.
