Heat on stars to re- sign

- JON TUXWORTH

TOWNSVILLE Heat are hopeful Jamell Anderson will join fellow American import Justin Baker in re- signing for next season as the squad for their QBL title defence begins to take shape.

The Heat will announce today power forward Anderson, an integral part of their championship charge next year, has agreed to return, joining star point guard and last year’s grand final MVP Josh Wilcher. Townsville is working to retain the core of the group that proved too strong for Mackay in the grand final series last year, and luring back two important players should tempt others to follow suit.

“Retaining those two was our top priority going into the off season,” Heat general manager Greg Vanderjagt said.

“They are two very key pieces and Justin gives us one of the top two or three power forwards in the league.

“He’s professional, you know what you’re going to get with him as a low maintenance and high character person.

“He’s great in the community and within our association, he ticks all the boxes for us.

“We’ve got a list of players who want to be part of the program. We can't fit them all in but it’s great having that luxury having players knocking on your door wanting to come to the program.”

Anderson is playing in Spain and Vanderjagt confirmed they would love to have him back to fill their second unrestricted spot.
