Margie’s ‘ extra’ incentive

- DANNI SHAFIK

THE national #BringBackDundee campaign has gained strong support from Townsville councillor Margie Ryder, for whom Dundee holds a special place in her heart.

It’s been 20 years since Cr Ryder was cast as an extra in Crocodile Dundee III.

A Walkabout Creek resident for 17 years, Cr Ryder remembers the day she played a widowed mum and earnt $ 51.

“I opened the gate for Paul ( Hogan) when he was picking up his kid. I was an extra,” she said. “It was so much fun and I really had the time of my life.”

Cr Ryder said although Brad Pitt may have millions of admirer, she had always been in love with Paul Hogan.

“He’s a larrikin and he’s the real deal,” she said. “When you talk to him, he is what he is. He doesn’t have to act much. “

Cr Ryder said she remained in contact with Hogan after filming with a series of letters.

“The first one came e with a photo,” she said. d.

The quote on the photo still makes Cr Ryder laugh as it reads, “I know you u didn’t ask for a photo, o, but I can’t even give e them away.”

Cr Ryder has de-- - cided to make a short clip filmed in Townsville to help the campaign, with the goal of getting it directly to Hogan.

Walkabout Creek is about 700km west of Townsville in McKinlay Shire and she believes it would be perfect for another Dundee instalment.

Already pursuing the concept is McKinlay council, which will write to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in a bid to make the new flick a reality.

Cr Ryder is using her contacts and has gathered a script writer, actors and a filmmaker to get creative for the clip.

“I’m going to get creative with the film because imagine how many people pitch to him.

“I want to make sure ours is good.

“He knows my face, so maybe he will think about it.”

Cr Ryder said should there be another film, she would most definitely want another role. “I’d do anything,” she said. “I’d sweep the floors, I’ll be an old grandma, I just have to be a part of it. it.”
