SAY YOUR BIT ON FITNESS SITE

- DANNI SHAF SHAFIK

THE public is being asked for input on a new outdoor fitness station at The Strand.

Townsville City Council will install the new fitness equipment at the open space next to The Strand Kiosk and Pier ready for use in a few months.

The project is jointly funded by Townsville City Council and the State Government’s Department of Tourism, Major Events, Small Business, and The Commonwealth Games, as part of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Public Improvement Program.

The council will begin construction on the new fitness station later this month after community consultation is complete. Resi- dents have b been asked k d to have their say on a preliminary design which includes roman rings, pull- up bars, body dips, leg raises, leg press, parallel bars, gorilla bars, step- up, situp, box jump, multi- bench and chest press.

Division 3 councillor Ann- Maree Greaney said the project would be a welcome addition. “The Strand is already a wonderful place to get active, and many residents take full advantage of it every day of the week,” she said.

“Having more fitness equipment available gives people even more choice for how they want to get active and stay fit for free.”

Outdoor equipment is already available across 10 other locations in Townsville and this second stage of The Strand fitness equipment will provide another uniquely designed destination on a beach foreshore location.
