New jockeys have blood to succeed

-

TWO riding dynasties have broadened with Tayla Childs and Logan McNeil joining Racing Victoria’s apprentice jockey training program.

Childs, 21, is the daughter of Group 1- winning Scobie Breasley medallist Greg Childs, and hopes to join twin brother Jordan in the jockey ranks.

McNeil, 16, is the brother of dual Rising Stars winner Jye.

The pair will be joined by Tatum Bull, 17, Alana Kelly, 18, and Madison Lloyd, 17, as the emergence of aspiring female riders continues.

All five will bid to match the exploits of celebrated AJTP graduates Craig Williams, Regan Bayliss and Katelyn Mallyon.

To be apprenticed to Andrew Noblett at Caulfield, Childs has been riding track work for Patrick Payne.

“I have been surrounded by horses and racing my whole life, I got my first pony when I was three years old and have loved riding ever since,” she said.

Jordan Childs will chase his first Group 1 success aboard Written By in Saturday week’s Blue Diamond Stakes.

Like Childs, McNeil has a strong racing pedigree.

Apart from his brother, his father Darryl is a trainer.

“After my first proper gallop on a horse the adrenaline was flowing through my whole body, and from that point on I knew I wanted to become a jockey,” McNeil said.
