FUNCTIONS PLAN NEXT TO RESORT

-

PLANS for functions to be held next to the Rollingstone Beach Caravan Resort ( pictured) may get the go- ahead after gaining the support of Townsville City Council’s planning committee.

The committee this week supported a recommendation to approve a material change of use application by the resort operators C & A Crowe Enterprises but with extra conditions relating to noise and waste management.

One submitter, a property neighbour, complained about noise which he said threatened his peace and quiet.

The proposed function facility is to be operated on land at 353 Hencamp Creek Rd, Rollingstone, where they plan to hold between 12 and 15 functions a year in a bush setting with views to the beach.

Temporary marquee and portable toilets are to be established for each event.

Resort owner Chris Crowe told the council the plan was to hold events such as weddings, corporate and team- building days and health retreats.

“It’s my intention not to interfere with the peaceful atmosphere that’s currently there,” Mr Crowe said.

Planning committee chairman Les Walker called for amendments to material change of use conditions to include requirements that loud speakers be directed to the ocean and that no rubbish be burned as part of waste management.

Conditions include that activities associated with the use of the facility must only be conducted until 9.30pm unless otherwise approved and that the maximum number of guests attending each event not exceed 120.

The application will go to the council’s ordinary meeting this month for final approval.
