BATSMEN PAVE WAY FOR ROUT OF SUBS
WESTS’ batsmen have given the team every possible chance of pulling off an upset against Sub Parks after compiling 9- 283 on the first day of their two- day match at Endeavour Oval on Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Wests suffered an early setback when opener and skipper Shaun Curnow was dismissed for four.
But after fellow opener Oliver Dickinson ( 35) and keeper- batsman Tony Hampson ( 59) laid the foundation, middle order players Adrian West ( 73) and Kim Rose ( 72 not out) capitalised with aggressive knocks.
New ball seamer Brad Dunn was the pick of the bowlers for Sub Parks with 4- 35, while Jamie Heit claimed 2- 40.
Wests have hit form at the right time by beating Wanderers and Saints in consecutive one- day wins before the penultimate round of the season.
It has allowed them to solidify third spot on the ladder, and a win over the ladder- leading defending champions Sub Parks would secure a finals spot.
“If you don’t get runs you’re in for a tough day,” Sub Parks coach Rob Parks said.
“We dropped ‘ Hampo’ early on, which didn’t help, and it was a very fast outfield as well.
“Their score is going to take some chasing.”
Meanwhile, second- placed Norths have bowled their way to a strong position against bottom side Wanderers by dismissing the hosts for 193 after sending them in to bat at Fred Jacobsen Oval.
Norths paceman Chris Johnson finished with 5- 37, racking up seven maidens in his 17 overs.
Fellow opening bowler Samuel Collingwood also had a day out with 3- 51, while Matthew McGuire claimed 2- 35.
Wanderers didn’t have enough contributors with the bat with only Philip Angel ( 56), Ryan Eaton ( 52) and Daniel Bestmann ( 33 not out) troubling the Norths attack.
Scores were not available at time of print from the SaintsBrothers clash at University Oval.
Day two of the round will be played this Saturday, before the regular season concludes with two- day fixtures during the following fortnight.
