FAIRFAX COLLE CTION A TREAT F OR CIT Y

- DANNI SHAFIK

ART lovers can treat themselves to a selection of outstanding international works at Perc Tucker Gallery.

“A World View: The Tim Fairfax Gift” celebrates a decade of artworks acquired by the Queensland Art Gallery Of Modern Art ( QAGOMA.)

Touring co- ordinator Henri van Noordenburg said Mr Fairfax had been gifting works to the Queensland Art Gallery since 2002.

“We had an exhibition of all the works that were gifted by him in Brisbane last year and from that we made a selection for touring around Queensland,” he said.

“Tim has been focusing his production and the gifts on artists from Africa, South America and the Pacific.”

Mr van Noordenburg said the idea of the human experience was central to the theme and also the idea of movement, or lack thereof.

Townsville Community and Cultural Development committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the exhibition was exciting.

“The good thing with Perc Tucker and the work our staff do is about creating an entree for people all the time,” she said.

“In this particular work you’re actually getting exposure to international works from across the world. As the title says, it’s a world view and it really is.”

The exhibition will be at Perc Tucker Gallery until April 15.
