MEDICAL CENTRE REVIVAL
A DISUSED medical practice in Kirwan has been given new life after the opening of Willows GP Clinic.
The space at 7- 9 Thuringowa Drive had been vacant since November last year when My Family Doctors went into liquidation and were forced to close their doors.
The building was sold earlier this year for around $ 1 million before Willows GP Clinic opened their doors.
The new clinic, which has no association with My Family Doctors, has employed a team of 10 including five doctors.
Practice manager Dani Harding said they decided to open in the clinic because of its size and capability for opening extended trading hours to service the surrounding area’s large population.
“The good thing about this was the sheer size of it,” she said.
“We have one treatment room and nine consulting rooms.
“We’re a family- based clinic so we offer everything from child immunisations, antenatal care, travel vaccinations, chronic disease management, clinic women’s health, and pathology will be coming in a few weeks.”
The clinic is open from 9am- 5pm weekdays and 9am- 1pm weekends but they will soon be extending to opening 7am to 11pm. They are one of the few medical practices in the area that offers bulk billing. The clinic was thoroughly cleaned and restocked before it was opened and major renovations are also planned.
“We’ll be completing changing the layout and repainting,” Ms Harding said. “We’ll also be changing the hallways to make them wider and easier access for wheelchairs and prams.”
The sale was negotiated by Shaun McLaren and Todd Walsh from Colliers International. Mr McLaren said the opening of the clinic was a great result.
“We marketed the property on behalf of receivers and we had a really good response to the marketing campaign,” he said.
“It’s been great to be able to offer the property to a medical clinic who will be able to make good use of it.
“They were attracted to the building because of the location on Thuringowa Drive and the good demographic area.” CHRISTIE ANDERSON 4722 4451
