Santi’s injury puts heat on selectors

- TRENT SLATTER

THE Townsville Blackhawks are yet to decide on a potential replacement for injured forward Brenden Santi as they prepare to face the Ipswich Jets on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Santi left the field after just 14 minutes in last weekend’s 56- 12 thumping of the Mackay Cutters and did not return after suffering an apparent broken hand.

The Blackhawks were coy about the extent of Santi’s injury yesterday, but the man himself has posted pictures on Instagram from a hospital bed with his right hand in a cast.

It seems unlikely Santi will be cleared to take the field in Ipswich, but coach Kristian Woolf has named an unchanged team, insisting the prop may have only suffered some ligament damage.

“At this stage we’re just going to run with the same team until we’re told otherwise,” Woolf said.

“He might not be out for long at all. We’ve just got to figure that out, we can’t jump to conclusions with it.

“You want a little bit of continuity there.

“One thing we haven’t done is play a lot of footy together and that’s why the weekend gone was pleasing in the fact that we were able to come together really quickly with the first run.

“We’re only going to improve with every run that we do get together and the more we can keep that squad together the better.”

Saturday’s game will be televised on Channel 9.
